My Chemical Romance w/ Taking Back Sunday
Tacoma Dome, Tacoma, WA
10.03.22

Six years after their breakup and an additional two years after Covid reschedules My Chemical Romance finally got to bring their reunion tour to the Tacoma Dome. A tour that sold out within a hour, with so much anticipation from forced delays, was well worth the wait.

My Chemical Romance set began with their newest song, The Foundation of Decay. Their first new song song released in eight years. Showing they still have songs in them to write to their fans. Following their opening song was “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” to which the stadium went crazy. To open the night with one of their best songs made the first few moments of the night filled with adrenaline that would not end till way after the show finished.

The fans were absolutely ecstatic all night long. Screaming and singing the lyrics from the start to finish.  The age of the fans ranged from those who would have been teenagers the their first album came out and those who probably had not started listening to their music until after they broke up in 2013. A beautiful rare moment of different generations coming together.

The stage was designed to look like a city ruined by armageddon. Rubble of a destroyed city stood behind them as bright white lights shined from above. No fancy outfits or theme in their attire. Everything about the set was all about the music not heard live for over eight years. That is all everyone wanted, stripped down and authentic.

MCR played songs from all four albums hitting all their biggest hits and a few deeper tracks that were the bands and hardcore fan favorites.

The set became especially emotion during peak moments like when MCR played The Black Parade. The entire area sang the opening lyrics louder than another song that night. The chills felt from hearing everyone sing was like nothing felt before. Following up The Black Parade was another hit, Famous Last Words ending their set before coming back on stage for a three song encore.

Let’s hope this reunion tour is not a the last time we hear from My Chemical Romance and that their newest song “Foundation of Decay” is the start of the newest album and not their Famous Last Words.
