Incubus w/ Jimmy Eat World & Judah and the Lion
White River Amphitheatre, Auburn, WA

Learning to drive with Incubus and Jimmy Eat World blasting through the stock speakers of a 1988 brown Dodge Caravan is something I’ll always hold dear, so when the bands paired up for a summer tour, with an assist from up-and-comers Judah and the Lion, you can bet I was there. The show? Nostalgia aplenty.

Lead vocalist/guitarist Judah Akers and his band of Nashville misfits were showed unstoppable energy both on stage with shirtless dance parties and off stage, as Akers ran up through the crowd on the lawn. Definitely not an act to be missed when you have the chance to see them.

I’ll always hold dear the memories of listening to “Make Yourself,” “Morning View,” and “Bleed American” (yes, I still call it that), en route to burritos from the local taco shops, and Jimmy and crew delivered a phenomenal set to no one’s surprise. Their stage design was out of the box as well, almost creating a Les Misérables feeling with street lights.

Incubus’s set – beyond being beautifully lit and produced – reminded me of something I’d lost touch with over the years. Brandon Boyd has an unbelievable set of pipes, and his vocals were soaring in a way that only a live performance can showcase. The show made me want to revisit all of their previous work before listening to their new release “8.”
