Vance Joy
The Showbox, Seattle, WA
04.09.15

If you’ve heard the song “Rip Tide” tearing up the airwaves and wondered who’s responsible for it – it’s the same young man from Australia who came to the Showbox on Thursday night and tore it up… A certain Vance Joy.

After the sound had been checked, the guitars tuned, and the drums assembled, it was time for Vance Joy. The lights went down and the band took the stage. Entering last was lead singer and front man James Keogh, with his signature curly hair glowing red in the stage lights. The crowd was still, gazing at the stage as the set began quickly with “From Afar.” Serenaded by his soft, yet slightly raspy voice, Keogh’s range echoed throughout the Showbox. The stage remained generally static throughout the set; however, bright, rustic lights synced to the music and highlighted the emotion and soul in each song. For such a simple set, it had a pretty dynamic impact. Fans swayed and sang along, as songs were plucked from Dream Your Life Away, Vance Joy’s first and only album. Although the show felt cut short, lacking an encore, the lingering feeling of wanting to hear just a little more is the same after every good show.

If you missed Vance Joy this time around, check out the August 8th date at Century Link, and be sure to get there early enough to see the opener for Taylor Swift.
