Tate McRae with Gavin Haley
Showbox Market, Seattle, WA
03.10.2022

The line wrapped around 3 blocks with fans eagerly waiting to get into the Showbox in Seattle Washington to see Tate McRae. It was just the second show of her North American Tour after kicking things off in her home county of Canada, a few day earlier. This tour was highly anticipated being her first tour since 2020. Everything lived up the expectations and went far beyond. She’s all you wanna see in a pop-star.

The well known dancer turned singer opened the set with ‘Stupid’. Accompanied on stage with two other backup dancers. All three were backlight from two large lights that wrote out a T and 8. McRae and the two dancers danced synced to the same choreography while singing one of McRae’s most popular songs. The excitement and screaming from the crowd made for one adrenaline filled first few songs.

McRae’s vocals sounded slightly different from the recorded version. More raw, natural, and in a softer tone that sounded so wonderful. The live versions hit different and satisfied the soul more. Most notably on songs “That Way” were you could hear McRae put real emotion and feeling behind her performance. A feeling that resonated with the whole crowd.

The one things not lacking at this show was fans capturing video of every second of the concert. Throughout the night she would grab fans phones from the front row and record herself for a few brief seconds before handing the phone back to the fan.

Half way through the McRae played the first song she wrote, “One Day”. The song that launched her career when she released the song on YouTube. The crowd screamed and cheered more for the start of the song more than others. A song that showed her really range as an artists as she slowed things down.

McRae was amazing at interacting with the crowd through out the set. Waving to the fans, reaching out to give high-fives to the fans in the front row, making each fan feel seen the whole show. The lines between fan and performer were blurred and it felt like the whole room was one. She’d sit on the edge of the stage while introducing the next song. Felt like she was just hanging out with her fans.

Every few songs McRae would  be accompanied on stage by two other female dancers. The former Dancing with the Stars contestant incorporating her first passion for dancing amplified the entertainment value making her performance stand out. Something McRae continually did the entire show, giving more and more to the entire performance.

Just two years ago McRae was playing shows in front of 150 and now she’s playing show in front of a couple thousand. Before long she’ll be playing in front of 10’s of thousands. If you missed Tate McRae or want to see her live again soon catch her on Shawn Mendes World Tour this summer on June 28th 2022 at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
