Fauna Shade
Sunset Tavern, Seattle, WA
01.14.16

Under a disco ball illuminated by red and blue lights, Spirit Award kicked off the show for a packed house at Ballard’s Sunset Tavern. Playing to a beanie-clad, eclectic crowd, their groovy bass lines and reverb repetition effects had the crowd jamming along. Up next was Great Spiders, an energetic five-piece from the Seattle area. Their on-stage splits, jumping, and old school rock and roll vibe was a great progression into headlining band, Fauna Shade.

Hailing from Everett and still considered a young band, Fauna Shade have been booking shows left and right, including the recent announcement of their spot on this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival lineup. Front man Scotty Smith’s unique raspy voice, hair-flipping, crossed eyes, and rippling reverb effects had the crowd entranced, dancing and jiving throughout the soulful set.

The three-piece band stayed jovial and upbeat as Smith sported a wide smile throughout their fascinating instrumentation and smashing rock and roll solos. The psychedelic melodies and spinning disco ball had the Sunset gyrating in nirvana. Smith described the tone of the evening perfectly “If tonight could be every night, the world would be Heaven.”

Catch up with Fauna Shade next week at Neumos for the Love, Seattle Vol. 2 Release Benefit Show for Seattle Children’s Hospital with a solid lineup of local bands.
