Sleater-Kinney
The Knitting Factory, Spokane, WA
02.08.15

I wasn’t sure if I would ever have the opportunity to write this preview, as musical daydreams of years past hung above my head, like a terrible tease… But sit down people, and brace yourself: Sleater-Kinney has officially risen from the dead! I’m so excited I can hardly ttypppe.

After years of being brilliant elsewhere, Corin Tucker, Carrie Brownstein, and Janet Weiss finally made the move to revive their achingly-missed, historically and socially significant band, Sleater-Kinney. Grown from Olympia’s nitty-gritty, caustic riot grrrl scene circa 1994, this trio spent a dozen years kicking ass and taking names. They toured across the globe, produced seven albums, and became a staple of northwest pride. In 2001, Sleater-Kinney was named America’s best rock band by Time Magazine. And in 2006, to much bewilderment, they quietly gave their last performance at Portland’s Crystal Ballroom, with little explanation for their hiatus.

2015 will be a great year. Sleater-Kinney’s eighth album, No Cities To Love, will be released on January 20th, and will be the catalyst for a lengthy tour which will, befittingly, end in Seattle in May. By any means necessary, find an appropriate tour date and go. This is a do-or-die bucket list moment. A majority of their dates across the globe have already sold out.
