Why Don’t We w/ Eben and Brynn Elliot
WaMu Theater, Seattle, WA

Without One Direction, the teenage population has been lost—the younger generation has no one to turn to. Whose pictures will they cut out of magazines? Who will they make fan accounts about? Which group will they still know too much about in five years? Well, fear not, because five-piece Why Don’t We have come to the rescue, blessing young teens with their 8 Letters Tour across the US.

The night opened with Brynn Elliot, the poster-child for motivational radio-pop. She danced around in her pantsuit with sunny pop songs, as her fans danced and sang along to each song, parents happily recording the whole thing.

Next up was Eben, whose music was a little less wholesome than Elliot’s. Walking the line between pop and hip-hop, Eben had a sunny, California-vibe on lock with his blonde hair and carefree attitude. The crowd seemed to be very familiar with his music, happy to sing and dance along.

When Why Don’t We started their set, it was everything it was talked up to be. Perfectly choreographed songs and flawless transitions between members of the set, it felt like a performance more ready for an arena than just WaMu.

They opened with “Trust Fund Baby” and “M.I.A” ominously on individual platforms at the back of the dimly lit stage before launching in to show off their dance moved with “Choose.” The crowd was almost as entertaining as the set, as they knew every single word and almost cried every time a member of the group would talk between sets. Color coordinated flashlights and loud screams filled the venue proving just how dedicated they all were.
