Skillet w/ Sick Puppies
Showbox, Seattle, WA
03.04.17

A line wrapped around the block of Seattle’s Showbox to check out Skillet, and the sold out crowd was treated to a band who really know how to work the room. They brought positive energy and a phenomenal experience to everyone in the room.

Touring in support of their 2016 release, Fury, Australia’s Sick Puppies opened the show. This was their first tour with new vocalist/guitarist Bryan Scott. He was a dynamic front man indeed, though they have always been a great three-piece band to watch. Bassist Emma Anzai was a force to be reckoned with, holding down the rhythm section with drummer Mark Goodwin.

Their high-energy show was fun to watch and the crowd loved it. They played all the hits, including their breakout single “All the Same.” Devour The Day vocalist Blake Allison joined them for the last song of the set, “You’re Going Down.”

The multi-generational, capacity crowd was then ready for a great show ahead from Skillet. A band for 21 years, the Memphis, Tennessee Christian rock group’s singer/bassist, John Cooper, made it a point to thank everyone for coming out. “It’s so nice to be on the West Coast again. Is that your Dad?” he asked, pointing to a kid in the first row. “That is some good parenting right there!”

Out supporting their 2016 release, Unleashed, they hit the stage with “Feel Invincible.” Their energy was so incredible, you could feel it from the stage to the crowd and back. Watching the interaction from Cooper and his guitarist wife, Korey, as well as guitarist, Seth Morrison, was infectious. Drummer Jen Ledger was a powerhouse behind the kit while she and Cooper shared vocal duties.  Both of their voices complemented each other in songs like “Sick Of It,” and “Awake and Alive,” while Korey also lent vocal duties throughout the night.

It was easy to see why Skillet has garnered such chart-topping success. Their high energy, anthemic, arena-oriented rock had everyone singing and jumping along with each and every song for a positive and incredible night of music.
