Descendents w/ Bully and Broadway Calls

An audience especially in need of catharsis united at Seattle’s Neptune Theatre for a highly-charged Descendents show. In support of their latest album – and first release in 12 years – Hypercaffium Spazzinate, the band delivered a two-night stand of revelatory pop-punk of the purest sort.
Opening the night were Broadway Calls, an Oregon three-piece that sounded like good ol’ angry punks. Next up came Bully, as lead singer Alicia Bognanno’s screams rang deep and powerful through the room. Her hair covered her face for most of the performance, minus the requisite head-banging. Their energy got the crowd super pumped for Decendents.
Capturing the mood of the night, Decendents’ lead singer, Milo Aukerman, came out with a newspaper displaying Donald Trump’s election win from the day prior. He proceeded to flick off the newspaper, put it on the ground, dump Cheetos on it, and stomp all over the whole mess. With definitive feelings about the political climate, it felt like the band played harder, angrier than usual. But after all the years, they still sounded amazing.
Simple white lights, occasionally flashing blue, illuminated the historic venue and a giant mosh pit took up most of the floor space. Crowd surfer after crowd surfer climbed on stage and jumped right back out into the throngs as the band ripped through an extensive set list that spanned their three decades of work.
