Ty Segall w/Axis Sova and Weird Omen

There’s a church of Ty Segall going around, and plenty are willfully ready to fall at his feet. As they did for a three-night stand at Neumos in Seattle, where mosh pits were expected, delivered, and demolished.

Fast eerie garage rock from French band, Weird Omen, opened the night. Their unique sound included sticking a saxophone into a speaker for echoes of brass. The lead singer dove into the crowd towards the end of the set, while their drummer was fantastic and kept the level at 110% throughout.

Axis Sova filled in the middle slot with polished, yet stagnant psych rock. Their all-guitar/bass sound, accompanied by only a tinny drum machine, was a bit droning, but they fit the bill.

Then it was time for headliner Ty Segall, and the fans lit up. Screams of “I love you” were accompanied by immediate most pits, and both Segall and his pianist seemed a bit drunk, though it didn’t affect the show in any negative way. Crowd surfers constantly jumped off the stage and straight into the arms of their fellow attendees as impressive guitar solos rang throughout the set.

Toward the end of the set a younger fan hopped on stage to be greeted with a mic and Segall’s guitar, and he absolutely blew everyone away including Segall, with a stellar, off-the-cuff solo. The night was the definition of face-melting rock, with a wide range of fans out to worship their punk rock superhero.
