Andra Day w/Chloe and Halle
The Showbox, Seattle, WA
11.09.16

The nation was reeling from the outcome of the presidential election, there was a protest going on through downtown Seattle, and an unrelated shooting just a few blocks from the venue. But music has the uncanny ability to transport your mind and body away from the day-to-day; the power to heal. And Andra Day, along with YouTube R&B sensations Chloe and Halle, brought to life exactly the kind of musically healing show Seattle needed.

From YouTube to being signed by Beyoncé, teen sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey opened the show. Dressed in beautiful blue and red silk kimono dresses, the girls took over the stage, exuding positivity and emotion through their music. The 17 and 18-year-old sisters delivered such an uplifting, and powerful message throughout the show.

The entire concert was being broadcast over a live stream for Melodic Caring Project and the sisters started each song out with a dedication to the many sick children watching the broadcast. It was a really amazing treat to see Chloe & Halle perform. With just a guitar and a keyboard, these girls rocked, and inspired the crowd to move.

In support of her full-length debut, Cheers to The Fall, Andra Day and her band were simply fantastic. A native of Spokane, WA, but having grown up in Southern California, in and around San Diego, Day is one of the most dynamic, powerful voices in R&B today. She is simply mesmerizing, a classic voice that references the past while delivering such a great uplifting vibe.

Accompanied by two backup singers/dancers, Day is a commanding presence in a peach dress and faux fur scarf. She dedicated each song to a group of kids watching the live stream. She said, “I’ve been going through some shit. So we are going to do a never heard or recorded song called “Work It Out.” And then she had a great duet with her keyboard player/singer, Charles Jones, called “Where Would I Be.”

Throughout the evening her message of caring and love, perseverance and hope, in light of all that had just happened shone through. She dedicated the hit, “Rise Up,” to us all. To rise above the recent issues of division. To overcome the hardship, and to love one another.

It was a great evening of strong and motivational women, sharing their music as a way to heal not only the children watching over the live stream, but the captive audience soaking in the healing vibes as well. If you have an opportunity to catch her on this tour do so. Day is the voice of a new generation with the vocal styling of the classics.
