Death From Above 1979 & Black Rebel Motorcycle Club w/ Deap Valley
Showbox SoDo, Seattle, WA
10.20.16

It was thundering in Seattle but there wasn’t a drop of rain in site. The storm that rolled through came in the form of co-headliners Death From Above 1979 and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The two bands, pairing up to tour with opener Deap Valley, let loose at Showbox SoDo for a night of noise that had the crowd going wild.

Deap Valley – an L.A. blues-rock duo – took the stage first, one very patriotic body suit on display. Guitarist/vocalist Lindsey Troy sounded like a cross between Kathleen Hanna and Alison Mosshart. Their set was self-assured, snarling, and impressive.

DFA1979 played in front of their signature elephant logo lit with changing-colored lights. Bassist Jesse Keeler stomped around, his hair swinging everywhere, while drummer Sebastien Grainger faced him. Grainger had some minor technical difficulties but owned up to user error, and otherwise the duo sounded amazing. Their set was a vibrant hour with great chemistry.

Closing out the night, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club brought their epicly drone-y rock and roll to the room. Vocalist/guitarist Peter Hayes played acoustic like it was electric with proficiency. The threesome were a dynamic pedal-to-the-metal finish to the night’s rock and roll storm.

The tour has just been expanded. Find tickets here.
