JD McPherson w/ HoneyHoney
Showbox, Seattle, WA
01.12.16

Some of the best pompadours in the city of Seattle showed up at The Showbox to catch JD McPherson and opening act, HoneyHoney. Both delivered energetic, soulfully poetic, classic American rock and roll performances. To top it off, both acts exuberantly streamed the show for the Melodic Caring Project, bringing music and entertainment to the hospital rooms of sick children.

In 2006, HoneyHoney was born from the talent of Benjamin Jaffee and the beautiful Suzanne Santo. The intimate setting of The Showbox made it impossible for anyone in the building not to move to the rhythm of the three-piece, American alt-folk band and the raw, yet silky sound of Santo’s voice, violin, banjo, and guitar.

JD McPherson set the tone for the rest of the night with fan-favorite “Let the Good Times Roll.” The Broken Arrow, OK singer-songwriter and four bandmates commanded the stage with their 1950s, classic rock sound. And sweet mercy, it was a good time! The energy was high as patrons were swing-dancing and singing along to the melodic blend of rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and a twinge of country. Many laughed, some swooned, and a few questioned how McPherson could wear his jean jacket for an entire set with a crowed induced encore. The highlight of the show was watching the collective following, young and old sing along to McPherson’s top hits, “Head Over Heals,” “North Side Gal,” and “Bossy.”
