BANKS
Market Showbox, Seattle, WA

Los Angeles based singer-songwriter BANKS made a stop on Tuesday, amassing an excited audience into the dark, haze-filled cave that was the Showbox. The animal calling this home generally tends to stay low key, but like luring prey, snatches bodies handily in the night. Caught off-guard, BANKS’ music will ensnare you in a somber lull of dark, meditative beats, until you’re stung with her sharp, breathtaking lyrical style. Her voice is to die for.

Ladies and gentlemen were all eyes through red and purple lights. A silhouette graced the stage, seductively moving in and out of the dark. Dressed in a long, sleek black skirt, a lacy mid-drift tank top, and daringly tall heels, BANKS’ famed brand of writhing had the crowd entranced. With a simple, “Seattle, I love you,” the evening was kicked off. A touring keyboardist/guitarist and a drummer accompanied her on stage. The set list encompassed all of her singles, finishing with “Begging For Thread” before a final encore song.

BANKS released two EP’s last year to critical acclaim, generating award buzz and landing tracks on television shows. She follows up this year with her first studio album, Goddess, released last month. With a few US dates remaining, BANKS will be reigniting her tour next month in Europe.
